AD4: Managing ground conditions
Policy Objective
This objective is concerned with managing ground conditions. Ground conditions will be affected by many of the key changes in climate that are projected, including changing temperature and rainfall patterns and wind and wave impact.
Possible adaptation measures include deeper, stronger foundations at the building scale, to reinforced slopes at the strategic scale.
Overview of Tasks
1. Establish a baseline
2. Assess opportunities to reduce risk and improve resilience
Key Planning Objective
All planning authorities should prepare, and manage the delivery of spatial strategies that secure new development and shape places that minimise vulnerability, and provide resilience, to climate change;
Paragraph 24
When selecting land for development, planning authorities should take account of the ‘known physical and environmental constraints on the development of land such as sealevel rises, flood risk and stability, and take a precautionary approach to increases in risk that could arise as a result of likely changes to the climate.
